In the period from January to September 2020, the value of exports of agri-food products from Poland amounted to EUR 25,070 million. This means an increase by 6.7% compared to the corresponding period of 2019.

- After experiencing restrictions in the economy and transport during the first wave of the pandemic, we have prepared the agri-food industry, production plants and logistics well for the second wave. The latest data for the first three quarters of this year confirm an increase in Polish food exports by 6.7 percent compared to the same period last year - said Minister Grzegorz Puda today. - These results confirm the very good quality of Polish food and its competitiveness on the global market - emphasized the minister.
Trade with European Union countries
Sales to European Union countries (including Great Britain) increased this year by 4.4% to the value of EUR 20,085 million. In the structure of agri-food exports, the share of EU countries decreased from 81.9% to 80.1% compared to the three quarters of 2019.
Most agri-food products in the period January - September 2020, as has been the case for years, were sold to Germany. The value of these sales amounted to EUR 6,231 million and compared to the same period of 2019 it was an increase by 10.3% (in January-September 2019 - EUR 5,648 million). Exports to Germany accounted for nearly 25% of the value of all agri-food exports carried out in the first three quarters of 2020.
Exports outside the EU are growing in importance
Attention should be paid to the growing importance of Polish agri-food exports to a country outside the EU. In the period January-September 2020, the value of these exports amounted to EUR 4,985 million and compared to the same period last year, it was an increase of approximately 17%.
- In the analyzed period, there was a 17% increase in Polish food exports to non-EU countries, which is not without significance in the case of the expected restrictions resulting from a no-deal Brexit. Our main recipients are still EU countries, which received Polish agri-food products worth EUR 20.1 billion - said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The greatest dynamics in terms of increasing sales value was recorded in exports to countries on the African continent, including to South Africa and Morocco (more than 2-fold increase) and to Algeria (increase by 86%). Moreover, the value of exports to Ghana and Senegal increased significantly. Tanzania has also joined the group of major recipients of Polish agri-food products this year.
Trade with the Middle East countries has also clearly increased. Here, in turn, the largest recipient was Saudi Arabia (more than a two-fold increase). Moreover, exports to Kuwait (almost twice) and Turkey (by 22%) also increased.
On the Asian continent, China remains the largest recipient of Polish agri-food products, but the largest increase in the value of exports was recorded for sales to Singapore (more than twice) and Vietnam (by 18%).
We keep a positive balance
- There is also a positive trade balance in agri-food products all the time - said Minister Grzegorz Puda.
Compared to the same period of the previous year, the positive balance of trade in agri-food products increased by about 11% and amounted to EUR 8,578 million.
